And our life as bloggers, my friends, is about to become a lot easier.
Here are some of the exciting new features as told by Matt:
A customizable dashboard, multi-file upload, built-in galleries, one-click plugin upgrades, tag management, built-in Gravatars, full text feeds, and faster load times sound interesting to you? Then WordPress 2.5 might be the release for you.
What’s even cooler is that Jeffery Zeldman is the man behind the dashboard redesign. This explains the way-too-cool new interface WordPress developers couldn’t have put together all by themselves.
More info and download WordPress 2.5 RC1 here.
OK, I usually don’t post about software updates and stuff on Blogging Bits, but WP 2.5 got me so excited I couldn’t resist.
Currently playing with WordPress 2.5 on my local machine.
It isn’t fair to the rest of the amazing Happy Cogs team to say that “Jeffery Zeldman is the man [sic] behind the dashboard redesign”, though we share your exciting for having such brilliant designers involved!
Lloyd, I didn’t mean to discredit other members of Happy Cog design team. But since Zeldman is something of an icon in the web design industry, I thought more people will recognize his name.
Congrats to the whole WordPress development team and Happy Cog design team for giving us a top notch piece of software in the form of WordPress. Happy?
Thanks for the heads up. I’m looking forward to the new release, but I think I’ll give it a little time to let the team work the bugs out.
Hold your horses, it’s only RC1!
I know I’ve already said that I’m going to upgrade as soon as it’s out (as usual), but I’m holding off until it goes gold. Once my current installation says I should upgrade, I will. That way there won’t be many remaining bugs hopefully.
Mohsin, could you check something for me? I’ve yet to install a test version of 2.5, so I can’t find this out on my own. Can you change the service in incoming links to technorati? If so let me know I’ll be sure to post a notice on my technorati links plugin page…
Aaron, I too will not upgrade until my plugins are updated for the latest version and the bugs are sorted out.
Matt, yeah it’s only RC1 but at least they are giving us a new toy to play with
Also, the other Matt said that it’s as stable as final version but he’s just being careful.
Jeremy, yes there’s an option to change the ‘incoming links’ feed URL (which is set to Google blog search by default) but when I changed it to my Technorati blog reactions feed, it kept giving me this error:
“Error: could not find an RSS or ATOM feed at that URL.”
But yes, the option to change the service is there.
Hmm odd the error occurred. Oh well, thanks for checking!
I’m still waiting. I’m not taking any chanced.
I am, however, running a test blog under 2.5 currently, for testing purposes. I need to make sure my GoCodes plugin is compatible. (It is essentially compatible, but there are some issues with the automatic plugin updater, and things like that I believe).
I am gonna install this when all my plugins are updated. I am kinda sick of the old theme so change is good.
Are you able to use Live writer with 2.5? When I post, it throws an error in live writer, but it does actually post to my site.
Just wondering if I’m the only one?
