KI, is definately not a radiation cure just protects your thyroid gland. However, the US Army medical division is very close to finishing development of exrad, a new drug that protects cells from radiation damaging its dna/rna. Its nearly ready for role out and hopefully we won't need it.

Lol! ICBM, very clever.
I wish I could afford all that stuff too. As it is I'm adding to it piece by piece every few weeks. By this time next year I should be most of the way there.

A Geiger counter is on my list, but finding a decent one is proving a but of a problem. Most of the ones I've come across in my online search have either been cheap & nasty looking or prohibitively expensive. I haven't found an in between yet.

Also there's a few laws I know I'm breaking & a few others that I suspect I am by buying this stuff. For the Kevlar armour I'm meant to have a class E weapons licence, thats the one I know about. I'm also pretty sure gas masks & rad suits have some sort of restrictions for owning them (probably to do with potential terrorism I guess).

But until the big day it'll stay locked in a box at my place anyway, so it shoudln't be a problem.

Well I think you maybe jumping the ICBM(lol). I wish I could afford all that stuff. Just remember gas mask filters have a shelf life. That rad suit will not be fun at a party. Lead is kinda heavy. Don't forget a Geiger counter or dosimeter! One of those are kinda important ya know.

I've started assembling a post nuclear/world event survival pack. Military grade gas mask and radiation suit, kevlar body armour, survival rations, water purifier etc.
I'll probably never use it, but at worst the gas mask & rad suit will be good for Halloween!

Negative vietgamer. KI is not a cure, it simply prevents the thyroid from absorbing isotopes of iodine. This has been touted as a cure or the real life equivalent of Rad-X or RadAway from Fallout, but it is just not true. KI will only prevent absorption of isotopes of iodine by the thyroid for a limited amount of time, but you are still vulnerable to gamma and X-rays. So at best is is a partial protection from a radioactive isotope that in normal life we really want to avoid, but in a post-strike environment it is just a minor nuisance. Please don't believe everything you read on the internet. Like before, really research this stuff. Radiation from a nuclear war is no effing joke.

I do not know if I have mentioned this or not. You are so right that we can survive a nuclear war. There is only ONE way to survive it if we are on the surface when the fallout come down to the Earth. I had read about a chemical that makes you immune to the radioactivity. It is now in our table salt. It is called potassium iodide. That is known to prevent the radiation from causing radiation sickness and cancer. If we have lots of supplies of that chemical, we will be able to withstand the radiation. As long as we have the supplement, we will be fine.

I had a lot of dreams about nuclear war. One of them was about my drinking a green slime that was supposed to be a cure for radiation sickness. We had just seen a nuclear explosion off in the distance. I knew that I would die so I decided to be the test subject and drank the green slime. If it killed me, it would not have mattered since I was going to die anyway. It turned out that it was a cure for the radiation sickness!! :)

I would think the biggest threat of nuclear war would be either in the Korean peninsula, Indian subcontinent, or Middle East. A nuclear war between Russia and USA is nil now since we are now allies with each other. China is our biggest nuclear threat right now since they have the most nukes among our enemies AND they are becoming our biggest economic threat. They surpassed Japan as the second economic power in the world. To make matters worse, they have developed a stealth fighter that can challenge the USA's F-35 stealth fighter. Our F-22 Raptors are the most advanced fighters in the world right now. The Chinese stealth fighters are the second most advanced fighters once they are in service. USA's F-35 stealth fighters would be the third most advanced fighters in the world. I am not sure, but I think the USA has a way to detect stealth fighters as well, which gives us an advantage over the Chinese. :)

Can't we all just get along?

Stop fighting on this blog. I don't care who started it, just stop. This blog addressed the Nuclear threat and effects it would bring upon the environment.

Personally, I think nuclear war is inevitable, considering we did spend a lot of money on the things. However I don't think that it would be the total annihilation of the human race, considering there are areas that wouldn't be bombed, such as the great north of Canada, as well as the areas of south America, and Siberia. In such places we could survive the nuclear attacks if money were spent on bunkers and such.

Quanatum, I agree with pretty well everything that you've said, I've done some research & you sound pretty close to the mark.

However I don't agreee with putting other people down because you don't agree with what they're saying or because their ideas sound stupid. A simple no would have covered it. People have the right to any opinion they want & the only way people can learn is to ask questions.

And so everyone is clear if the bombs do fall(which seems unavoidable to me), it wouldn't result in anything even close to the world of Fallout.
