Recently, I’ve been getting emails from would-be bloggers who are fascinated by blogging, but don’t know where to start. Well, I don’t blame them. Even though there are many blogs that teach blogging, and they have guides to get the new bloggers started, they usually forget that a person who is not yet committed to blogging doesn’t fancy reading outrageously long guides.
Blogging isn’t as scary as some of the lengthy blogging guides make it appear to be. If you are new to blogging but can’t decide what to do, go through this teensy weensy blogging guide and take the plunge!
For now, this is all you need to know. If you are still around after a few months, come back and subscribe to Blogging Bits RSS feed for more tips.
Please add your tips for new bloggers below. If there are any particularly useful, I’ll add them to the list.
- The most important tip for success - market yourselves well.
-Also, write for a couple of months to know whether you’ve got the passion to last long enough before success comes (depending on niche, it could take a long time).
- DO NOT put ads all over the place, expecting to quit day job with income from AdSense etc.
These are the tips I’ve learned from experience, though I’ve done #2 and 3 well, and as for marketing, my niche is not exactly marketable - there are hundreds of other blogging/tech blogs. But I’ve experimented with social media (700+ and 900+ diggs, 3 SU success, 2 delicious success).
Just my 2 cents.
Thank you for including my post in your carnival - it’s much appreciated! Look forward to reading the other contributions.
Thanks for the list, although it is a “Teeny Weeny Guide†it is a good start. I was looking for a project plan for creating new web2.0 site. And either I am not looking in the right places, or there is not much posts on the subject. This is a good start because any web2.0 app should have a blog and do much promotion work…
Sumesh, thanks for the tips. Certainly useful for new bloggers.
Tip Diva, you are welcome. Keep the good tips coming!
efimor, social media is the best way to promote web 2.0 projects. A Digg and del.icio.us front page can take any new start-up to the heights of success.
Very nice article. It will surely help new bloggers.
Yes! I really agree with you that many new bloggers fear to think about lenghty blogs they think they cant think about such blogs, But in starting i too was not that much aware of how to Monetize your Blog. Thanks for giving such an interesting blog from which i can also get benefitted.
Fahd and mathewbary, I am glad you guys found it useful.

I am a new blogger and I thoroughly agree with what you good folks have said. This has totally pointed me in the right direction.
Thanks very much!
